This Sunday Peruvians will vote for a new president. One candidate is a crazy ex-colonel who wants to do lots of bad things and reverse much of the progress made over the past 10 years in Peru. He’s tortured people, led uprisings against the government, is friends with the crazy presidents of Bolivia and Venezuela, and who knows what else. Oh and by the way, his brother led a little “rebellion” that killed an innocent policeman last year, when I was living in Lima.
I have no problem with “protest votes” and political rebellion IF it’s to back someone who can make real progress in a poor country that needs it. But if this guy is elected, Peru will have serious problems for many many years. All Peruvians…. please, please, PLEASE don’t make the mistake of voting this nutcase into office. You’ll look worse than we Americans did in Novemeber of 2004. Much worse! Plus I still want to visit a few places in your beautiful country but will only do so if it’s still a democracy!
