Farewell to the Crazy Australian

I’ve always liked Australians a lot. They seem to be much cooler versions of English people. But probably the coolest Australian ever was Steve Irwin — the death-defying “Crocodile Hunter” — who was stabbed in the heart by a stingray on Monday. This guy was so friendy, full-of-life and enthusiastic that you had to love him, no matter how crazy he seemed. I think the world will truly miss the Crazy Australian conservationist and his vitality for a long, long time.

Of course — just maybe — you have to think that getting done-in by a stingray (and being one of the only people ever to be killed in this manner) is one of the ways Steve would have liked to go. I mean, that is just crazy — who gets stabbed in the heart by stringrays??? Steve Irwin, one of the most fearless human beings to ever live, that’s who!

The only problem is that Steve went far, far too early. He had at least another twenty or thirty good years of messing with ultra-dangerous animals on camara in him. It would have been nice if he could have stuck around a little while longer to show us the “proper” way to catch rattlesnakes by the tale.
