Dane Cook is comic who’s fan base has exploded in the past year or so. I want to know why. It can’t just be all the self-promotion he does. While I do very much respect the “all out” marketing blitz he’s done for himself online, at some point talent has to come into consideration… right??
I’m sorry if you’re a fan, but Dane Cook is simply not all that funny. He’s a decent comic — nothing more, nothing less. There are literally dozens of funnier comedians out there… possibly hundreds. If someone can explain to me why he’s so popular (besides the fact that he has billions of “Myspace friends”) I’ll be very happy… and impressed!
Maybe I missed some great never-to-be-repeated performance he did in the past. All I know is that, out of the 3 or 4 stand-up performances I’ve watched (or at least tried to watch) on TV, I’ve laughed 3 times. One was a true laugh. The other 2 were just “hehe” laughs.
Hopefully I’ll solve this conundrum at some point. Maybe he’ll get funnier if I watch a few more episodes of Tourgasm. Somehow, I doubt it…
(Note: It was just pointed out to me that, apparently, Dane Cook steals good jokes from better comics…)
