This is my first Easter in Las Vegas in over 10 years. I figured I’d try to find a Catholic church and attend mass. But then I remembered I’m lazy, plus I ended up going to play basketball and working out at the park near my house. Feel kinda bad about that. I think I need to start going to church on a regular basis. I am “kind of” Catholic after all… and a little religion never hurt anybody. Plus, I hear that church is a good place to meet “good” girls. Since I’m looking for a nice (and cute) Mexican girl I think it would be a good place to start.
So anyway Happy Easter and wish me luck in my search for religion and a cute latina girlfriend!

I think that, considering the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels were picked to finish 6th in the Mountain West Conference this year, we can consider 2006-2007 to be a very successful season.
And by the way guys, way to not give up against Oregon despite being down about 17 points at one point in the second half. For a team to battle back to within just a couple at the end, against a team as good as Oregon, was just incredible. Tark would have been proud. As you have all season long, you managed to give us an extremely exciting game at the end!
So anyway… Hell of a season UNLV!!! Thanks for making it so fun…

OK, so I survived the Tech/UNLV game last week. Of course I was the only one cheering for Georgia Tech (my alma mater) to win over the Rebels (my dad’s, uncles’, cousins’ alma mater… and Vegas’ only real “home team”)… and people were definitely giving me some “eat sh*t” looks. But it sure helped my personal safety that the Jackets played like crap and let a much smaller, less-athletic UNLV team run all over them. Oh well, at least our freshman phenoms will probably be back to make a real run next year!
So anyway………. GO REBELS!!!!!!!!!!!
Last week was the first and last time I will ever root against UNLV, the team I grew up watching. So of course I jumped on the bandwagon and turned back into a rabid Runnin’ Rebs fan for the Wisconsin game last Sunday. And what a freaking game! As they’ve done all year long the Rebels build a big lead early in the game… let the other team come back… and then caught their “second wind” just at the right time near the end.
So we’re back in the Sweet 16 for the first time in 16 years (which, by the way, was the last time I live in Vegas). Unbelievable! For the first time in a decade and a half the people of Las Vegas have a winner and can get excited about something.
Watching Coach Kruger and his team is definitely fun. Nothing like watching Tark the Shark and his incredible teams of the 70’s, 80’s, and early 90’s… but still really fun. I figure they may as well go all the way to the Final 4 (in my adopted city of Atlanta this year) and give the NCAA a big “F-U” for trying to screw them with their bizarre seeding…
By the way….. GO REBELS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It figures! BOTH of my teams finally have good seasons, make it into the tournament at the same time… and they have to play each other in the opening round! What the hell???
UNLV really got screwed, as usual: a 7 seed (way too high for such a good team) and getting Tech in the first round (definitely the most dangerous 10-seed in the entire tournament). just more payback from the NCAA for stuff that happened almost 20 years ago (Tark Rules!!)
Anyway, despite being raised a Runnin’ Rebel fan, I of course have to represent tomorrow… even if it means getting my ass kicked by an angry mob of locals who’ve waited 16 years for another good UNLV team. It’ll be interesting to see what happens when i’m the only person wearing Georgia Tech stuff… and rooting wildly for them… in a room filled with thousands of diehard Rebel fans…. half of whom will be drunk by 9am…
So here’s my prediction for this NCAA tournament: The Yellow Jackets will make another run to the Final 4, just like they did in 2004. This team is better than that team in many ways… especially on the offensive end…
By the way… TO HELL WITH GEORGIA… AND DUKE TOO!!
